Samsung electronics claims to have developed the world's first LCD panel that supports DisplayPort - i.e. the next generation video interface, approved by VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association). The 30-inch LCD panel, transmits graphic data at a data rate of 10.8Gbps, and the new interface runs on zipping speeds of 2560x1600 resolutions at up to 10 bits of color depths i.e. twice the speed of today's interface and would require at least three DVIs to meet the same color depth. It may perhaps be the time to part with your prized DVI ports that requires two DisplayPort interface in comparison to one required by the Samsung's new LCD, the production of which is scheduled to kick off in the second quarter of 2008. This new LCD along with the DisplayPort also features the S-PVA (Super Patterned vertical Alignment) panel that allows for a massive 180 degree viewing angle.
