While we sit cozily pumping in mind blowing music from our iPod or brushing our delicate fingers over high-end laptops catering our requests at whopping speeds, few guys are still not satisfied with the way things are processed and spend their lives making technology more faster and smarter. Realizing their dreams (a bit), or perhaps yours, the super charged electronic chips are coming your way with the development of the ‘world’s fastest transistor’ by researchers at the University of Illinois.

Developed by Milton Feng and Walid Hafez the new half a millionth of a meter long transistor will help churning our more reliable and fast computer chips with its 604 GHz of operating speed. Though components based on the transistor will be released quite a while from now, once it’s developed, it can catapult our lives, especially when incorporated in complex electronic devices.

Doug Barlage at North Carolina State University, US, said: “This establishes a new benchmark for transistor performance. It is probably three times faster than the fastest silicon-based device.’
