PGI, Intel, SGI and the US Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) came out with a collaborative result ‘Swift40e’. The capability to download entire HD DVD or Blu-ray at a rate of 40 GB/sec declares it world’s fastest single-stream wide area network (WAN) interface card.
Incorporation of standard communication protocols and direct connection to OC-768c optical WAN infrastructure via PCI Express Technology allows Swift40e to access and storage for remote data to enable remote computing, remote visualization and remote analysis.
Configurable with two PCI Express x16 interface cards, Swift40e supports full duplex 40 GB per second optical streaming transmission along with 16GB of onboard memory. Stirring the quest for high-speed data acquisition and stream data processing, this one enables production deployable wide-area network applications from across the campus to around the world.
It can also customize data stream pre- and post-processing and can be configured to provide over 15 TeraOps/sec for custom applications. Pentium says nothing about the date of competing in market, but delivered great news for supercomputing world.
