World's fastest scanner scans a 200-page book in one minute
Using a special super vision chip that reacts faster than the eyes can react; Professor Masatoshi Ishikawa and his colleagues Takashi Nakashima and Yoshihiro Watanabe from University of Tokyo have developed a scanner which can scan trough a 200 page book in just a minute. The camera used in the demonstrated scanner can shoot at 500fps, capturing frames at 1280 x 1024 resolutions. Here each page is clicked twice, once in regular light and once in laser light, the latter with assistance from software builds a 3D image of the page. The team of researchers taking heart from the demonstration now wish to miniaturize their creation to fit it into the smartphones and like. If that works, then who knows, someday you may be using your iPhone (n)G to scan your books at that speed.
