Designed by French physicist and artist Bernard Gitton, the water clock is 26.5 feet tall and stands proudly at the World's largest childrens museum in North America after 5 years of hard work from 1989 and with a contribution from Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wood.

It uses 70 gallons of a solution of water, methyl alcohol and food coloring and works on three basic principles of physics.

The clock tells time by the means of a glass cupel which propells a pendulum controlling the amount of water flow so that when the minutes column empties one of the hour columns gets filled up.Together the number of filled spheres lining the hours side of the clock and the number of filled discs on the minutes side tell visitors the time of day.
