Well, the world record for fastest data transfer has been shattered down by Alcatel-Lucent when they managed to transfer 25.6 terabits of optical data in one second over a single fiber strand. For the process, they employed 160 Wavelength-Division Multiplexed (WDM) channels, which is sufficient to transmit the data from more 600 DVDs per second.
The previous record was 14 Tb/s, which was set in the month of September last year. You can just imagine that even one-tenth of this speed could be more than enough for you. I feel like throwing my DSL line out of the window.
