I love cruising down a lonely lane with my boyfriend doing 100 mph on his Ducati. The only problem is he crashes a lot and frankly I think all those concussions are making him stupider by the day. Thankfully engineering student Brycen Spencer from UMass Amherst has come up with a really smart helmet that not only protects the bikers’ domes but also calls 911 if it detects an impact. The Wireless Impact Guardian (WIG) uses a super-cool GPS to tell the emergency office exactly where you’re lying crashed. The device gets automatically activated when the helmet is buckled on and if the accelerometer registers an impact exceeding. Of course if you still wanna savor your concussion and/or blood gushing out the back of your head on your own, you can always turn off the device in under a minute.
