Winter a graduate engineer student went on a mission to build world’s best wheelchair .Intending to use his invention where it is most needed he went to Tanzania where only 3% of those who need the it could afford .
Winter worked with local technicians to design a hand-crank and to educate them on how to use cycle parts on a wheelchair so as to reduce the cost of repairing. Another problem winter encountered was improperly fit wheelchairs which he believes can be rectified easily.
He plans to present a biographical manual of basic mechanical engineering skills this September to local technicians in Tanzania and at the 2006 African Wheelchair Congress.
