Microsoft has been in brisk efforts to gain ground in the mobile market, which is currently dominated by the Redmond firm’s major rivals Apple and Google. The new version of Windows Phone 7 is part of its attempts to stand up as a major player in the mobile industry. Different from Apple and Google, Microsoft reaches in partnerships with third-party manufacturers to build hardware for its operating system.

Besides Fujitsu-Toshiba, Microsoft has similar accords with companies like Samsung, Acer, HTC, ZTE, LG, and of course the Finnish mobile maker Nokia with which Microsoft has churned out a strategic deal to nourish its Windows Phone as one of top mobile OS platforms in the world. The new Nokia and Windows Phone mobile ecosystem is basically meant to fight the two leading ecosystems in the industry – Apple iOS and Google Android.

The first smartphone from the Microsoft and Nokia partnership, codenamed Sea Ray is expected to come out in October this year. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Windows Phone is predicted to become the world’s second biggest mobile OS platform after Google Android toppling Apple iOS by 2015, according to an IDC survey.
