Gene J. Koprowski has hit the nail on its head. The cell phone memory card war will definitely give iPod some heat and we cannot rule out the possibility of complete elimination of not only the ubiquitous iPod but other MP3 players in the near future.

The removable memory cards, especially Samsung’s 2GB MultiMediaCard (MMC) that can store 12 hours of mobile video, will arm cell phones to take over the rest of the players. The whopping growth of removable memory card sale in the past couple of years reflects clearly what lies ahead.

Seeing the trend, market researchers predict the growth of memory cards for cell phones at the rate of 53 per cent by the year 2010. Apparently, the heated competition will give way to more storage, faster processing and download speed and more compact cards that would completely change the functionality and role of our mobile phone.
