Wheeling away: Pint sized roller skating robot unveiled by Hitachi

Humanoids seems to be the way of life these days, sometimes a butler, sometimes a cook and this time roller skating one to be a tour guide or to be a security guard. Unveiled by Hitachi, EMIEW2 humanoid is equipped with complex spring-loaded shock absorbers in its legs, which allow it to move without falling when there are bumps and wires on the floor. It can also control its postures, like stabilizing in the same way as humans do.

With two wheels on its legs, it can move at the speed of six kilometers per hour. Measuring 80 centimeters in length and weighing in 14 kilograms , it's helmet has been fitted with 14 microphones, so that it can pick up voices like music or may be even the clatter of footsteps. This creation could be used as a receptionist, visitor’s guide and even as a security guard, doing patrolling, carrying out etc. Yuji Hosoda, chief researcher at Hitachi's transportation systems department said, “This adorable EMIEW could lead to a new form of surveillance.”
