What 's up with touchscreen desktops in the making?

We’re moving fast to Gestural Interfaces in computers and electronic devices. While it’s only a matter of time before we start using the computers seen in sci-fi fantasies, human nature will make us speculate on the possibilities ahead. Touch and gesture based devices available in the market currently are immensely popular with the users, and with the launch of HP's TouchSmart and TX2 computers, desktops with Gestural Interfaces appear a lot closer.

Dan Saffer has written a book discussing the possibilities a Gestural Interface desktop could have, what it would look like and the functions it could perform. The designs and interfaces discussed by Saffer in his book appear quite appealing and interesting. A swoosh of the hands could allow you to do functions you had seen a hero do in some sci-fi movie. Well, not exactly launching laser cannons, that’s still far.
