WaveRider tests to beat speed of sound by six times

Rockets have fire blazing in their rear to send them in speeds that defy the speed of sound, but seeing airplanes beat that speed or even near it somehow, would appear a thought too foolish. But the US military as always has other ideas to amaze us. This time around the military is planning to test the X-51, an aircraft which they say can fly at six times the speed of sound, so we actually have a thought lived, quite literally if they can pull it off.

Breeding on an air-breathing, hypersonic, combustion ramjet engine - the Scramjet, X-51, better famous as the WaveRider, grabs a lift of its own shock waves and stays airborne on any ordinary jet fuel. The engine is made in standard nickel alloy and functions on forward motion to compress air for fuel combustion. The noticeable aspect of the scramjet is the fact that it uses its own fuel to cool during flights and doesn’t actually require a separate oxidizer.

Under the program the first flight of the WaveRider is scheduled for October, where a B-52 bomber will carry it before it is released at about 50,000 feet over the Pacific Ocean at speeds of Mach 4.8. Developers believe if the flight lasts for about five minutes, and the engines can ignite, the speeds could reach to more than six times Mach - a once in a lifetime gamble, folks, we wish to be around, what’s your take?
