Briefing the media about the latest product, Sony Corporation has said that the latest 3D LCDs are completely different from the 3D products rolled out by other companies. The difference being that one can view the LCD without the need of wearing 3D spectacles and still get a 3D experience.

Sony naked eye 3D LCDs have a pixel count of 960x360 and a brightness of 300 cd/m2. According to the company, the 3D images can be viewed better from a distance of 80 to 160 centimeters. I don’t know about other 3D products, but this 3D LCD has six viewpoints. That is one can get the 3D experience from six different points. There are two backlights in the LCD. Another best feature of this LCD is that if a person wishes to watch only 2D images all he has to do is to switch off the 3D backlight. This way, this LCD acts as both 2D and 3D.

Speaking about 2D mode, Sony said:

In 2D mode, the pixel count and brightness of the display become 1,920 x 1,080 and 192cd/m2, respectively. Even though the backlight for 3D images was added, view-angle properties, etc do not deteriorate in 2D mode.

These naked eye 3D LCDs are going to create sensation in almost all countries, especially in India given the fact that Indian market has been awaiting more 3D products. Sony Corporation has, however, did not mention the price of the product. Though two products were announced, the chances of 10 inch LCD becoming a hit is a doubt as it is known that people usually wish to enjoy watching 3D images on big screens.
