All hail a robot that compensates for heartbeats. Developed by the Waseda University, this surgery assisting machine with a heart rate compensating system is a way up in the surgical robotics.

The difference lies here

While other robots tailor-made for conducting surgeries have to cut open the entire cavity in the cheat to operate, taking a leaf from the Carnegie Mellon University’s CardioArm, this surgical robot makes a small opening during a coronary bypass. The objective here is a tad different to that of the CardioArm – the robot substitutes for the natural movement of the heart resulting from a heartbeat, mimic the heart to be still, helping the surgery to continue without interruption. The heart rate detected by a device with a parallel link and sensed by a marker, is compensated by the robot in a process which could pave way for more cleaner and endoscopic type heart surgeries.
