Warner rolls out hybrid HD-DVD disk

The hybrid buzz has made its forays into the disk format war too. Warner Home Video has just launched the first hybrid disc featuring high-definition (HD) DVD content on one side and standard DVD content on the other.

As per Steve Nickerson, Senior Warner VP market management:

The hybrid disk aims to ease the transition from standard to high-def DVD. Purchasing a disc now in this format gives consumers the greatest flexibility in viewing options. If they own an HD-DVD player, they'll get all the benefits of HD-DVD. If they're considering a future purchase of an HD-DVD player, they can still enjoy the movie (on their existing DVD player) until they upgrade.
As per rumors, Rob Reiner's romantic comedy will be the first hybrid HD DVD to be released on May 9. Warner's 'Goodfellas', 'Swordfish' and 'Training Day' will soon join the already released the HD-DVDs 'Samurai', 'Phantom' and 'Million Dollar Baby' in May.
