Ward off germs with Kevlar Body Armor

Posted By: Desh Raj Sharma | Jul 22 2008

Working in extremely unhygienic conditions wouldn’t be that sticky a situation at all, thanks to Yuyu Sun and Jie Luo of the University of South Dakota who delve into the creation of armor or jacket that could salt the germs and infectious microorganisms away. The researchers effectively covered Kevlar with acyclic N-Halamine and went on to prove its effect in subjecting it to microbes like E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida tropicalis (a fungus), MS2 virus, and Bacillus subtilis spores (to ape anthrax). Startlingly enough, these microorganisms couldn’t stick to the Kevlar fabric. What can we call it? A discovery or an invention- whatever, it’s going to be so very instrumental in reducing the health related risks for sure; absolute protection is always beyond absolution. If it is so, there’s one question that lurks behind all that has gone by- wouldn’t it infect or pass on the biological agent to the next chap?
