Wallpapers to replace bulbs as next efficient lighting solution

Posted By: Bharat BhushanSharma | Jan 2 2010

A Welsh company by the name of Lomox in order to further develop its organic light emitting diodes (OLED) technology has developed a wallpaper-type chemical coating that can be printed on any flat surface, and when charged with low electricity voltage (3 to 5 volts) can be made to produce light. This project of using electric current to stimulate chemicals to generate light has been awarded a £454,000 grant from Carbon Trust organization, a UK government backed body.

This technology that requires very low operating voltage can be used for a host of applications requiring ultra-efficient lighting, i.e. from homes to consumer electronics. And being an ultra-efficient lighting (major producer of carbon emissions) source, Lomex believes its technology could help reduce carbon emission, and play better on the OLED technology which years after development is still limited in scale owing to its high cost of production. We could see Lomex official out its brainchild sometime in 2012.
