While most consumer gadgets are blemished for being illness provoking, researchers from the University of Southern California have thought of a way to help cellphones rise up from the taint and help the obese shed weight. Hooking up obese kids to a “mobile body network,” comprising of a device to measure skin’s electrical conductivity along with a heart-rate monitor, accelerometer, blood glucose reader and GPS for location, and connecting it with a battery sensor on the child’s body, the system uses a Smartphone to send the collected behavioral data to the university’s computers, where it is then figured out as to what the information means.
The main motive of this virtual personal training system is to detect lethargy in children and help correct the same. In case a child’s found lazing, a spree of text messages will be shot his way to trigger him to get into some kind of activity or involve himself in some action in the group (of other children that are connected to the system). This is bound to instill a sense of staying fit among kids, and is definitely a refined thought.
