We here at GizmoWatch are big fans of the Minority Report-styled interactive displays, and when we are talking them, we can never miss the Microsoft Surface. Microsoft is currently working on the next-generation version of its Surface coffee table computer, which will make use of the “Second Light” technology. This technology projects images onto a layer above the Surface’s surface and thus allows the user to control them by mid-air gestures and movements. The video above explains the principles and technology behind the Microsoft’s second-gen Surface. The demo was featured at Microsoft Research Cambridge Lab during its “Enabling Innovation Through Research” event held on May 6, 2009.
