We’re desperately waiting for Michelin to roll out its out of the blue airless tires, dubbed as ‘Tweel’. Michelin showed the glimpses of the Tweel last year at the Detroit Auto Show and now we can actually see it rolling in the video just released by the company.
You can see the Dean Kamen’s iBOT equipped with the Tweel in the video. The innovative wheel is actually covered with ‘replaceable outer rubber layer with a central alloy hub joined by polyurethane ribs’. We’re still skeptical of how far the concept will be successful if implemented commercially in the future, but, no doubt it has triggered a new era in the automotive industry giving it a new direction.
