Britain unfortunately has a high rate of child pedestrian causalities thus something had to come up sooner or later to tackle this problem. I guess the problem has found an answer in the Vehicle Speed Restraint designed by Jason Bell. The VSR applies simple aesthetics to save children in injury prone areas which are generally traffic laden places.

It is more of a psychological barrier than a physical one for the drivers as it gives them an impression of a small barricade ultimately prompting them to cut down on the speed. The side teeth also contribute to the cause by narrowing the road ultimately leaving more space for the children to commute where they can even afford to get of the pedestrian for there is some space available even on the road.
