What's the major problem faced by you with your camera or cameraphone? Many of you will say, 'Quality pictures'. Now, a Chinese technology firm named Varioptic has come up with a new technology and claims it to offer good quality pictures. Their new cameraphone lens is focused and zoomed by using oil and water instead of mechanical parts.

The Artic 416 liquid lens is based around a technique that is dubbed electrowetting. When some voltage is sent through, the water droplets flatten out while the oil spreads out thereby shifting the focus of lens.

Varioptic claims the new lens to be more efficient than the mechanical variants. It's highly suitable for cameraphones that boast 3-megapixel lenses and above.
