Intel's new quad-core Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor is the most common issue these days. No doubt that this system will be able to perform operations exceptionally fast but there is a big problem that restricts its use as the system will only benefit multithreaded applications and those applications which are not multithreaded will run ever slower which brings the average performance comparable to those core 2 duo processors. Even the games engines fall under this category. This is a major problem to be solved.
Valve software's Gabe Newell has found an effective solution to this major issue. It has optimized its source engine for multi-core system by investing significant resources, which is a big relief for game developers. These updates will be released soon in the next engine updates.
