A jet fighter for the water. That is how I would like to call the U.S. Navy’s latest trimaran, the U.S.S. Independence. This trimaran looks every bit aggressive and combatant with it’s tri-hull design that makes it almost unsinkable come what may. But sailing the rough waters is not what this trimaran is designed for. The U.S.S. Independence is designed for doing duty close to the shoreline. and talking about it’s duties, this vessel will carry helicopters, armored vehicles, minesweepers, etc and will stay as close as possible to the battle lines. This obviously means that this vessel is designed to take plenty of fire that it will certainly encounter from the enemy camp. This trimaran will have a top whack of 60 knots which makes it a very fast battleship, and the U.S. Navy has plans to build fifty five of these at an “inexpensive” 208 million dollars for each trimaran. Phew! So the American taxpayer will foot the bill of a couple of billion dollars to strengthen the already mighty U.S. Navy.
