Useless invention of the day

I know eco-friendliness is the order of the day, and anything and everything that can save our precious fossil and forest resources is supposed to be good, but there are times when an idea that looks good on paper does not quite turn out to be as, er, useful as you had thought. A good case in point would have to be this 2.5 metric ton Multi-Rider Bicycle Bus created by the students at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. I didn’t understand the logic behind this thing but it’s supposed to be some kind of an eco drive with each of the 32 passengers pedaling to power the engine. Although I do understand that the concept could be revised in scale to make it more practical like the Conference Bike or something, but I know for a fact that given a choice, I’d rather lug my own self around on a regular bicycle than having to pull anyone else’s weight.
