Urbee: First 3D-printed body hybrid car hits speeds of over 200mpg

Not all fuel-efficient cars would be attractive for geeks and technology addicts, but a partnership between Stratasys and Kor Ecologic is expected to give us geeks something to gawk at in their fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly Urbee car, which will have its body printed in 3D using the additive manufacturing process. Now, this is a great way of combining environmental cause with latest in technology.

Urbee, the first prototype car ever to have its entire body 3D printed, will hit speeds of over 200mpg on the highway and 100mpg in the city, running on either gasoline or ethanol. Besides this, the car can be charged overnight from any standard home electrical outlet, or be charged wind and solar energy also. “All exterior components - including the glass panel prototypes - were created using Dimension 3D Printers and Fortus 3D Production Systems at Stratasys’ digital manufacturing service - RedEye on Demand.”
