Unmanned SkyTote conquers both horizontal and vertical limits

The SkyTote concept, developed by, Aerovironment is the biggest leap taken in the field of unmanned air vehicles (UAVs). The charm of the SkyTote UAV lies in the fact that it can land and take off vertically just like a helicopter with the help of its dual counter rotating propellers, but can also evolve as a conventional aircraft taking horizontal flights.

The vehicle blends helicopter control with aircraft control operations to give the desired effect and can be effectively used to deliver payloads at specific points in a predefined range and time, evaluating bomb damage and rescue missions.

SkyTote program manager Mr. Cord said:

It's not a great rotor or propeller; it's a good compromise between a helicopter rotor system and an airplane propeller, and that's part of what we are trying to show is that this system will work well for this type of airplane. When you look at the design parameters, you either go one way or the other. When you start to blend the two systems together, it becomes challenging. That is one of the big areas we have addressed during the past few years.

Incorporated with matchless technicalities the 208 pounds SkyTote can attain speeds of 200 knots.
