Uniforms with woven communication antennas to improve soldier’s agility

An innovative technology that can simplify the life of a soldier in a battle field is revealed by BAE systems. This new technology comprises communication antennas woven into the fabric of military uniforms; camera mounted on helmet and smartphone that assists in voice commands and transmission of GPS data even in times when the soldier is lying flat to duck himself for enemy fire. This BWA technology reveals soldiers from other tensions, such as, that of carrying conventional radio whip-antennas and allows them to concentrate on their missions. In case of any emergency or critical situation, a solider can share information with its team through images clicked by camera mounted on helmet. This allows soldiers to have a check on all the current and possible situations that are going through.

The antennas eliminate the conventional radio whip-antennas that make it difficult for a solider to carry it along all the time. These wearable antennas, that transmit voice, video data and GPS location, enhance the performance of a soldier in the battle field and also are unaffected by the position of the wearer. Unlike previously the antennas are designed to give 360 degree coverage continuously. In case of any emergency or critical situation the message can be passed to other soldiers by the camera mounted on the helmet.

A touchscreen smartphone attached to the wrist in this system utilizes sensors to get the improved operational picture. Potential hazards will be highlighted on the screen of the phone for a soldier’s reference. On a whole this can turn out to be one of the great advancement in defense services, which could assist soldiers to achieve their missions. After this successful launch, the BAE systems are now exploring to integrate such systems to the fire-fighters and rescuers and also to police patrol team members.
