Undersea robots have come a long way, and the latest to make it to the fore is a much faster and more advanced robot developed at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute. The new autonomous underwater vehicle dubbed the Tethys takes to the seas much faster and farther that any of its predecessors. Imbibing the best traits of traditional types of AUVs, the Tethys underwater robot travels long ranges underwater, staying at sea for weeks together and carrying more scientific instruments than any such vehicle ever before.

The intelligent underwater robot can park itself in the deep waters, waiting endlessly for something interesting to happen. On the happening, the intelligent robot reacts instantaneously to record and observe the happening. Being imbibed with decision-making skills, the robot can react autonomously, without human intervention, in both collecting and transmitting data.
