The FireEye, pictured here with its creator Owen Bawden, was created for the Rural Fire Service. It is a UAV (unmanned air vehicle) that they can use to fly over fires and forests and brush that have sparked up into a fire. This tool is going to be used to access the intensity and range of the fire and collect other valuable information to help aid the FireFighters in their rage against the fire. This not only gets them information quickly but it can save lives as well by allowing them to attack the fire faster and more efficiently. It is equipped with a low altitude video camera to view the fire from the bird. It has other materials which allow it to stay up longer and fly to its full potential. To deploy it, you can toss it up using two people or it can be launched from the back of a Category 9 fire truck.
This invention will not only save lives, but it will save money and property. This invention will make the jobs for the Australian firefighters easier, safer, and faster. The property lost by forest fires over there are into the millions each year and finally, we have something that they can use to aid them in their fight.
I believe it is probably the best thing that has happened for the firefighters in almost half a century. With the recent fire in 2003 which burnt its way into the capital of Australia, the fire burnt down almost 500 homes. With this product, those kinds of fires can be adverted by faster acting personnel with stronger information. I think once this hits the stations in that country, we will see a significant decrease in the destruction forest fires and bush fires. It is something that will help a great many people.
