Kevin D. Belfield, a Chemistry Professor at the University of Central Florida has developed a new technology with which users will be able to store 1 TB, which is approximately the same size as that of 500 Movies on a single DVD.

The technology used is also developed by Belfield and he named it ‘Two-Photon 3-D Optical Data Storage’ System.

Belfield accompanied by his team used lasers to compress large amount of data on a single disk and still maintained excellent quality of the data stored.

Earlier they faced challenges that light was used to read and write data onto a disk and the light could not distinguish between reading and writing and in the process all the information was damaged.

However, Belfield and his team used light tuned to specific colors and wavelengths to allow information that a user wants to keep to stay as it is.
