Toyota has developed a Delivery Robot, especial to aid people with limited mobility, but that doesn’t mean you and I (who can move about freely) cannot avail its benefits. The Delivery Robot is very amicably designed to retrieve items of need and help people with opening doors, clearing out trash, making food available etc. For the needy it is a chore done, and for the others like us it is another addition to make our lives even more lethargic.
The prototype bot manages the chores using a laser range finder with which it determines its position and navigates within the confines of the house in real time. Recognizing speech for commands, the Delivery Robot has stereo cameras in its head which it uses to locate objects of interest, which it then picks up with its arm and carries to the place where the object is required. Jump down to see the robot avoid objects and people to satisfy its owner.
