In the ensuing 'tablet wars', Toshiba is finally about to bring out its 'big gun' to candidly confront Apple, albeit in the form of its new and sleek - Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet. Though the specifications are not strictly clear, what we have is the information from its prototype unveiled at CES.

This yet to be named tablet will feature a 10.1-inch display and a resolution of 1280x800 pixels, both of which are greater than iPad 2. It will also integrate a built-in HDMI output, a 2-megapixel front camera and a 5-megapixel rear camera, which are again of higher resolution than that of Apple. Additionally, the Toshiba model will have a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, USB and mini-USB ports, a SD card slot and a removable battery.
Toshiba's Rob Wilkinson said:
We are confident that we can match Apple pricing for their new iPad 2 while delivering a device that is richer in features. We believe that our device is superior to the Apple device, it may be a little heavier (773g) but it does have a lot of features that the iPad 2 does not have.
Though it is yet to be seen how such enhanced features would be utilized in conjunction with the newer applications, it is expected that if this new device does live up to its hype, it will certainly put a dent upon the nigh monopolistic predominance of Apple in the tablet market.
