Toshiba recently revealed FlashAir, the first SDHC 8GB memory card with wireless LAN function. The FlashAir memory card can be used to exchange images between two digital cameras wirelessly that too without using a PC or a notebook.

The FlashAir is compatible with IEEE 802.11b/g/n with the transmission range of 10 meters, the transmission rate is up to 10Mbps, though the speed may depend on the environment. Not only does it provide wireless LAN functioning, but also keeps a check on power usage, as it activates the wireless communication function only at the time of image transferring or receiving.
To use such benefits a camera must support FlashAir, several digital camera makers are about to release cameras that support FlashAir. It will be used as a normal SDHC memory card for the digital cameras that do not support FlashAir, and can be used for displaying and copying pictures on a Smartphone or a PC wirelessly.
Toshiba will start shipping sample models in November this year, and will begin with its volume production by February 2012. Although no exact word is there regarding the cost, yet the price is expected to be around $84.50.
