Necessity is the mother of invention; new inventions are made to make our lives better. In the same line, Toshiba has unveiled its first Ultrabook - the Protégé Z830 Series, which it says to be the thinnest notebook till now, measuring just 15mm in thickness. At last week's IFA conference, Toshiba showed off its latest ultraportable notebook, which leaves both the MacBook Air and Sony's new hotness Vaio Z behind.

Toshiba Ultrabook weighs mere 1.11kg and sports a 15mm profile. The Ultrabook has a 13.3-inch LED-backlit display and offers a resolution of 1366×768 pixels. Toshiba has opted for 128GB solid state drive, and an everlasting 6GB of RAM. To make typing easier in dim light and to protect the system against accidents, the Protege Z830 Series laptops are built with a group of user friendly features, such as a full-size LED backlit display and a spill-resistant keyboard. In addition, to give users the liberty to control their smartphones even when the system is powered off, the Ultrabook includes Toshiba's USB Sleep & Charge technology. Stereo speakers with superior audio expertise from Waves Audio make this ultimate for listening to music, watching movies and video chatting etc.
The Protégé Z830 Series “has set a new standard for thin and light systems, not just in portability, but also in affordability for such cutting-edge designs” says Carl Pinto, Toshiba’s VP of product development. Toshiba has said it is aiming to bring the Z830 for under $1,000, but it has not announced the final pricing yet.
