Toshiba launches 320GB mobile drive with fall protection
Toshiba has announced a new solution for laptop owners to enhance the storage capacity of their systems without compromising the drive safety.

The company has released a new line of 2.5-inch mobile SATA HDDs that are available in all capacities up to a massive 320GB. These drives named the MK-52GSX spin at speeds up to 5,400RPM and come with 8MB cache memory. The drive also includes a freefall sensor that enables the drive to survive falls greater than 10-inches.
If 5,400RPM is not what you crave for then you can go for another variant of the drive named MK-49GSY that packs a punch of 7,200RPM and is available in all capacities up to 200GB. Toshiba is also planning to introduce a better 16MB cache in the MK-49GSY that will feature media transfer rate of 895.9Mbps and is about 100Mbps faster than the 52GSX.
Going by the words of Toshiba there is not much difference in the seek times of both the drives as both offer an average seek time of 12 milliseconds.
