At the recent Automotive Engineering Expo 2007, Toshiba announced the availability of its some auto-related products, which are a mobile HD DVD player and a fresh take on touch panels. The high-definition in-dash player is being co-developed by Alpine, and has been set for a 2008 release.
The LCD is an upgrading on usual touchscreen technology, without any film coating, which usually lessens contrast ratio and brightness to manage the user input, rather than bringing optical sensors beside each pixel. These sensors are thereafter claimed to be capable of spotting the shadow of a press through the day plus the reflection of the backlight at night. Toshiba is also making out plans to give upgrading to that tech to make use of infrared rather than day/night sensors.
