With the mobile devices gaining more functionality and high-performance, the need for compact potential power sources is mounting all the time more. No doubt, in the near future, we will be witnessing portable devices being charged by some kinda fuel cell, which employs a volatile liquid as a power source in place of a battery. But, Toshiba seems to be thinking of something different since its latest fuel-cell prototype is meant to be worn on the head.
Toshiba’s new direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) headphones boast a cistern of flammable methanol on one ear and a Bluetooth receiver on the other side. This methanol reservoir gets charged with a 5ml squirt from a disposable cartridge thereby offering 10 hours of power.
Though they have placed a lithium-ion battery in the prototype unit, we won’t find that in the final commercial units.
