TiVo Dual-Tuner DVR vs PC-Based PVRs
TiVo has just launched its new Series2 DT DVR with dual tuner that allows you to record two shows at once. The TiVo Series2 DT DVR is more flexible than its predecessor as it comes with integrated Ethernet and USB ports and the 80 hour model is introduced with a price tag of just $99.99.

It was perfect time for TiVo to introduce the new dual tuner DVR with other DVR alternatives giving it stiff competition. But the actual rivalry, as per Alexander Wolfe, is posed by cable companies renting DVRs for as low as $9 a month.
Also, when there're so many software products available, that easily turn your PC into a DVR such as SageTV and Snapstream's Beyond TV, shelling out ten times more money for TiVo doesn't make any sense, especially when SageTV 5.0 promises impeccable remote-access, users will definitely be skeptical of investing in the dual tuner.
Alexander Wolfe says:
Right now, the standalone DVRs remain more convenient to get going with, even if you do end up locked into a monthly rental cycle. A basic TiVo (not the new dual) box rents for $20 a month if you sign up for one year. Cable company DVRs are comparably priced, rent for $10 to $20 per month.
So, make your choice deftly.
