ThruVision, a British company has come up with a camera that can actually see through clothes. Now before you start feeling naughty, the camera is aimed at increasing Security in Britain. Called the T5000, the camera has the special ability to detect various items such as weapons, drugs and even explosives hidden under one’s clothes from up to 25 meters away. It is said to utilize passive imaging technology that helps identify objects via their natural electromagnetic rays, also known as Terahertz or T-rays. Although it can see objects under clothes, its designers say that the images do not show exact anatomical details. With a range of distances of upto 80 feet, it is suggested to be deployed in public places such as railway stations, shopping malls etc where it is really difficult to track out a suspect. The system can be linked to a computer so that it can automatically scan anyone passing and alert the operator to anything suspicious that it may find. ThruVision already has a smaller system designed for offices that can scan through clothes from a range of 30 to 40 feet.
Originally designed for use in astronomy and spacecrafts, the researchers felt anything that could see through clouds could also work with clothing and hence enhance our security from terror threats. Lets hope now that with such technology available to us, we can curb terrorism to some extent.
