Threshold has launched One-Net that it claims to be a cheap and a more powerful solution for Home automation systems.

The One-Net system will challenge configurations like ZigBee and Insteon as Threshold claims that it can build home One-Net nodes for just 2$-3$ by using off-the shelf transceivers with range up to 100 meters indoors.
The free software that will be included in the package can also work with transceivers from six other vendors that are Analog Devices, Texas Instruments, Semtech, RF Monolithics, Micrel and Integration Associates.
However, if you talk from the security point of view I am a bit bothered about it as Threshold has not commented anything on the security of the system.
