The R902 (W) engine for flawless safety and endurance on Hermes 450 UAV
Aviation industry being the newest transportation segment always has a lot of scope for improvement, as even a single mistake and problem doesn’t offer any chance in the midway. The R902 (W), a new engine by Elbit Systems Ltd. for its Hermes 450 medium altitude long endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is a similar inclusion, advancing the safety and operational performance to next level. The new engine was unveiled at the Singapore Air Show by the company. With new R902 (W) Wankel engine, Hermes 450 UAV can easily take off for 20 hours without a break. Due to the enlarged width of the Wankel engine block, the new 40-kg engine gives a mighty 70 horsepower as well as a larger ignition compartment, which is best among all the internal combustion engines available. Its electronic fuel control and a ‘starter-alternator’ option, for aerial ignition, separate the R902 (W) from other air vehicles of the same rank.
