What can you say about a machine that is as efficient in security checking as it is in the fashion industry? We call it the Whole Body Scanner put together by staff engineer Doug McMakin and his collaborators at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Washington.
The scanner that was invented for infallible security has now applications in fashion stores. The harmless and low-powered radio waves illuminate the body from head to toe to make sure that you are not laden with anything destructive, can now also figure out which pair of jeans would fit you like a glove.
This technology has been adapted by Levi’s, as well as women’s retailers Lane Bryant and Fashion Bug. It is a non-invasive and convenient method to take with accuracy, a high-resolution body image or a set of neck, waist and inseam measurements. This unprecedented precision is sure to get you the pair of jeans or just about anything that your body is etched out for. To address privacy concerns, security personnel monitor the computer images in a remote location where they never see the individual.
The technology is foolproof and has been incorporated in more than 100 security systems around the world. An endeavor to ensure security, also in turn, ensured the perfect fit of jeans, in my opinion, that is also a kind of security!
