The Apple iPhone’s touch sensitive screen is ultra cool and great to use but one big grouse that iPhone users generally have is the absence of a tactile feel like that of physical keyboards. This in turn reduces typing speed and also results in increased typing errors. To get around this problem, the Department of Computer Science at the University of Glasgow has initiated a project called the iPhone-haptics. This project basically focuses on developing a system that produces vibrations as and when a user types on the touch sensitive screen. For this, the iPhone is modded to feature an actuator that provides vibrations as and when a key is typed. Taking things further, you can even feel edges of keys with this actuator based system that will greatly reduce typing errors.
