Bicycles in for a high-tech parking , all courtesy Japan

Cycling around in crowded cities to save the planet and to keep yourself fighting fit comes with it's own set of problems, a primary one being that of parking. The space starved Japanese, like always, have gotten around this problem too by building a Bicycle Parking Machine. All you have to do is place your cycle on a platform which will slide inside a chamber, which is very reminiscent of a lift. And then, the mechanical arms will place your bicycle in a parking slot somewhere underground and all this happens at the press of a few buttons and takes less than half a minute. The entire system has been designed as an underground tower to save space and can accommodate 9400 bicycles. This service costs about 100 Japanese Yen per day or alternatively a monthly parking pass can be bought for 1800 Japanese Yen. Now, is it too much to ask for a similar system for our cars and motorcycles? But who knows, Japan's there...
