Envisage a world of the future! At the blitzkrieg pace that technology is advancing, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine computers with flexible displays (some of them have already made their way in!), nanotube cooling that will reduce the size of the PC by several degrees, and lightning fast chips.
The pace at which technology is evolving is, at times, baffling. Fictional stories of the yesteryears are practical concepts today.
Metal birds with wings are supersonic jets, while devices that were imagined to replace people have taken the shape of computers and programmable robots.
Over the past decade or so, the face of technology has undergone a radical transformation. Dreams have been delivered, while imagination has given way to mystifying reality.
Look around you and you’ll realize that your world is incomplete without the machines. In indescribable ways, people have begun to depend on these digital creatures.
The difference between fact and fiction is hazy as we move to an era where programmed intelligence would be the order of the day. From server-sized PCs to pint sized PDA’s, we have seen it all.
Size constraints have been treated with disdain. Proportions have been thrown out of the window. Smaller chips store more bits and perform better, while their larger predecessors have found their way into the dump yard.
If the current pace of technological evolution is any indication of what the future will be like, the logic of innovation will certainly take a beating.
As with the biggest paradox, ‘the future has certainly arrived!’
