Every time you see something novel in the robotic ranks, you secretly say to yourself, what next, and there you’re in for another surprise. This is what happened to me when I read about the robotic wall by engineers at Clemson University’s School of Architecture. I didn’t think after humanoids, helper robots and rovers we were so close to seeing robotic architecture, but then that’s how things evolve here.
The AWE – Animated Workplace Environment as they call this wall, is designed to be rearranged to make a single space useful for a host of things – similar to shape-shifting furniture maybe. The robotic wall featuring eight-degree-of-freedom, touchscreen display and electric motors for power, lets users select six different configurations by gesturing to the wall’s motion sensors. The wall reacts to movement, so if you stand to walk out, the wall will automatically react to give you way. Exciting, isn’t it? Follow the jump to see the video demonstration.
