The Bath researchers in England are making use of new photonic crystal fibers to make the dream of photonic computers true. The photonic computers have the ability to run on light instead of electronics.
The £820,000 research project aims to secrete light in a incessant series of pulses that last only an attosecond, which is one billion-billionth of a second. Other than a breakthrough in the photonics dome, the research could aid physicists look closely at the world of atomic structure for the very first time.
Dr Fetah Benabid, of the Department of Physics at Bath cited:
Harnessing optical waves would represent a huge step, perhaps the definitive one, in establishing the photonics era.
The research may further bring new facts about the mysterious quantum world of sub-atomic particles.
