TeraPIX: A parallel chip for an All-Digital Cable network

Broadlogic has announced a new chip, TeraPIX that allows cable operators to utilize their 750MHz spectrum inside the coaxial cable.

Presently, all the cable operators are offering around 80 channels and they waste 500MHz of the allotted spectrum in it as they offer analog signals. Making these channels digital is a solution but the subscribers don't allow this as they will have to install set top boxes for the digital to analog conversion.

If there can be a solution to provide digital channels without the use of STB then the operators can use the spectrum width for profitable services such as internet access and HD video.

Broadlogic says that using TeraPIX is the most convenient option. This massively paralle chip sits inside a residential gateway at the edge of an all-digital cable network and it recreates the 80 analog channels inside the consumer's homes.

This allows the operators to use the bandwidth for more profitable services and yet keep the subscribers away from the STBs.
